FLU SEASON IS DEFINITELY HERE!
On the news it’s been reported that the supply of flu vaccine has been fully distributed in the U.S., and there’s no more to be had. This year, demand for the vaccine has greatly outstripped supply, creating a shortage. Unfortunately, the American public is poorly informed about the anti-viral properties of essential oils. If people understood essential oils, perhaps there’s be less reason to panic!
How To Stay Healthy and Alive When Infections Strike and measures you can take to prevent catching the flu. Flu is a highly contagious disease, usually more prevalent in the Winter and Spring. It is spread from discharges from the mouth and nose from infected persons. The influenza virus has great genetic variation, which accounts for the frequent epidemics, caused by different strains of the virus. The main target of the virus is the respiratory system. Flu can be highly dangerous for children, the elderly, or people with a weak immune system.
Symptoms of flu include sudden onset, fever, chills, muscle aches and pain, headache, weakness, and physical and mental exhaustion. Sneezing, coughing, and other symptoms of the common cold are usually present, and intestinal complaints are also very common.
For building the immune system and preventing viral infection, we recommend.

PREVENTION CONSIDERATIONS:

Essential Oils

Oil of Oregano—Powerful Anti-Infectious/Viral Agent (Georgetown Univ Medical Center Report, Oct 2001) (# 3605)

Oil of Thyme— Nerve Bacterial and Spinal Bacterial Infections (Dr. Jean Valnet, M.D. Research Studies) (#3650)
ImmuPower---Immune Support. Building,Strengthening and Protecting the Body (#3363)

Oil Blend Thieves —Kills 99.96% Airborne Bacteria (Weber State Univ Laboratory Studies) (#3423)
Oil of Lavender —Soothing for Blister Agents on the Skin (Rene Gattefosse, French Scientific Experiments) (#3575)

Exodus II Blend—Immune Stimulating, Anti-viral Compounds (Biblical Oils Used in Ancient Cultures) (#3338)
DiTone---Valuble Soothing Digestive aid. (#3324)

RESPIRATORY CONSIDERATIONS:
Fir, Idaho Balsam—Combats Respiratory Infections; Soothing for muscles and body aches. Anti-fungal (#3654)

R.C. Blend—Antiseptic Respiratory Support (#3405)

Raven Blend—Powerful Support to the Lung/Bronchial Tissues (#3402)

Exodus Capsules---A Super Charged Antioxidant /immune support with Echinacea and essential oils (#3205)
Mineral Essence---Ionic Mineral complex enhanced with essential oils (#3222)

Cleansers;
Thieves Soap—Soothing, Antibacterial all-natural Cleanser (#3679)

Dentarome PLUS Oral Hygiene—Anti-Germicidal Toothpaste (Contains Thymol and Thieves Blend) (#3738)

You can use the essential oils topically or internally. For topical application, apply to the bottoms of the feet, the pulse points of the wrist, or to the back, neck, and chest. Since these oils are considered "hot" oils, be sure to dilute the essential oils with a carrier if you have sensitive skin.
For internal use, put 3-5 drops into a vegetable capsule (gel cap) and swallow. Do this three times per day, for at least a week.
You can usually purchase gel caps at any health food store. If you don’t have any gel caps, you can put 3-5 drops in a tablespoon of honey and let it trickle down your throat
In Europe and England doctors have been prescribing essential oils and herbs as treatment for Infections, Colds and Flu. Some of the essential oils recommended are Idaho tansy, Cypress, Tea Tree, Lavender, Thyme, Oregano, Rosemary, Peppermint and Fir, Idaho Balsam.
Fir, Balsam is a conifer oil distilled in northern Idaho. It has been used for treating muscle aches and pains, sinusitis, bronchitis, and other respiratory disorders.
If you use a combination of different essential oils and supplements, recovery is more assured than if using just one essential oil or herb.
Patients with the flu require bed rest, a well-balanced diet, and lots of liquids, such as water, homemade Lemonade, vegetable juices, soups and herbal teas. Use the diffuser with Lemon, Eucalyptus or Lavender to disinfect the room air and keep the nasal passages clear. If you have a sore throat, place one drop Melrose (blend) essential oil on your tongue and swallow. Do this every half hour until the pain is gone.
It is important when you come down with an illness to use essential oils correctly. Be aware of any safety precautions, as some essential oils can sting or burn so they need to be diluted.

Diffusing Oils;
When oils are diffused in a home or office, they purify the air itself by removing toxins, metallic particles and other harmful microscopic debris. They also increase the atmospheric oxygen of the air, and boost levels of beneficial ozone and negative ions which dramatically inhibit the growth and reproduction of airborne pathogens.
Further, as the odorous molecules drift to the various surfaces of each room they rapidly kill virtually all pathogenic bacteria, rifles, molds and fungi they come into
contact with. And lastly, they completely destroy odors from mold, cigarettes, household pets and more.

Perhaps the most popular and effective method of diffusing oils is to buy a product called a Diffuser, which sprays an ultra-fine mist of the essential oil of your choice into the air. The millions of misted particles sprayed from a diffuser are so fine they can hang in the air of your house literally for hours, spreading from room to room via the normal air circulation that occurs as you walk through your house.

So diffusing puts the oils into the atmosphere in your home. You're getting increased oxygen because it releases the oxygenating molecules, you're getting increased ozone and negative ions because that's where it comes from in nature, from the plant oils.

*** VERY IMPORTANT POINT ABOUT DIFFUSING OILS:

Whatever you do, DO NOT HEAT YOUR OILS.
Keep them around room temperature. Heating the essential oils will not only ruin the therapeutic value of the oil, but it can also harm you. Research shows that high temperatures will change the chemistry. This changed chemistry can be toxic to the human body.

This is simply basic organic chemistry 101. If you want to fragrance a room and obtain health benefits, use a cold diffuser. Do not use a light bulb called an romalamp or burn oils with fire from a candle.

Quality;
I went to a well known body care store and found the oils that were labeled "Pure Essential Oils." In very small print, on an attached card, was this statement, Lavender essential oil diluted to a 2% solution."

That 15ml bottle contained 6 drops of lavender oil and the rest grape seed oil. That is a 2% solution!!! The bottle sold for $10.00. A 15ml bottle of lavender essential oil contains about 300 drops and usually costs between $15.00 to $20.00. My experiences further cement my faith in Young Living Essential Oils as being a honest, dependable source of quality oils.

Subject: Staph Infection (Super Bugs.....Doctors/Drugs can't cure)

It is well known that antibiotics will no longer be the super drug they once thought it to be.
Thankfully we have essential oils that will kill bacteria and virus and microbes that can harm animals and humans, AND the bacteria, virus etc cannot mutate in the presence of essential oils. Essential oils are too complex and the bacteria just die.

To your health,
Kathy

Many of you know we have a 'researcher', Dave Bobst, and a real student of YLEO's. Been on the phone visiting with him and he just shared this information which makes us grateful for our knowledge of our Essential Oils and how to use them.
Also a copy of this is going to Young Living and Gary Young.

Dave writes:

Dear Rich,

This is what I just talked to you about on the phone. This came from the Associated Press.

Flesh eating bacteria cases, fatal pneumonia and life threating heart infections suddenly are popping up around the country, striking healthy people their doctors.

The cause? Staph, a bacteria better known for causing skin boils once easily treated with antibiotic pills.
No more, say infectious experts, who increasingly are seeing these "super bugs" strains of mStaphylococcus aureus unfazed by the entire penicillin family and other first drugs. Until a few years ago, these duo-resistant infections were unheard of except in hospital patients, prison inmates and the chronically ill. Now, resistant strains are infecting healthy children, athletes and others with no connection to a hospital.

"This is a new bug," said Dr. John Barlett, who chairs the committee on antibiotic resistance at the Infectious Diseases Society of America. "Its a different strain than in the hospital.....more dangerous than other staph.

"Primary care physicians and ER doctors, they don't all know (about this) and should," he said.

Barlett, a professor at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, treated three young Baltimore area women this year who got pneumonia from this community-acquired resistant staph. All had to be put on breathing machines, and one died, he said.

The infections will be a hot topic at the society's annual meeting this week in Boston. The group has been warning
that drug companies aren't developing enough new antibiotics to avert a crisis.

Among the case reports to be discussed:

In Los Angeles, doctors at UCLA Medical Center treated 14 people with necrotizing fascitis, informally known as "flesh-eating bacteria," over a 14-month stretch through April. Three needed reconstructive surgery and 10 spent time in intensive care.

"This is about as serious an infectious disease emergency as you can get," said Dr. Loren G. Miller. "We don't know how these people got the infection, there doesn't seem to be a common thread."

_In Corpus Christi, Texas doctors at Dricoll Children's Hospital saw fewer than 10 cases a year of community-acquired resistant staph infections in the 1990s, then saw 459 in 2003, with 90 percent in healthy children. Half were admitted to the hospital to get intravenous antibiotics; a few developed life-threating lung and heart infections or toxic shock syndrome.

_A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study shows another new twist: The resistant staph strain caused pneumonia in 17 people, killing five, during last years flu season. Only one had any risk factors for the infection.

"Nobody dreamt when we were in medical school that this would ever enter the community." said Dr. Rajendra Kapila of University of medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark.

He has treated several patients with the infections at University Hospital there, including an itinerant golf caddie who kept getting abscesses on his neck until he landed in the hospital two years ago. Kapila linked the infections to abrasions from the man's golf bag strap.

In August, a man in his 40s with severe back pain turned out to have such severe staph infection in his spinal cord he was paralyzed permanently, Kapila said.

Dr. John Sergreti, an infectious disease specialist at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, estimates about 1 in 10 patients, some with prior health problems, die from the infections.

Dr. Dan Jernigan, a CDC epidemiologist, said athletes, children and military recruits are at higher risk. They are more likely to get cuts and scrapes and share close quarters and items such as towels and soap. Another factor is overuse of antibiotics, which tends to kill weak bacteria and help hardier ones develop resistance.

"Clinicians will have to think differently about skin infections,"
Jernigan said. "We treat most skin infection without ever testing them."

Testing will tell whether a strain is anti-biotic resistant, but the tests are expensive.

There are no national statistics on these infections, but health authorities are debating requiring doctors to report them.

CDC has reported on numerous infection clusters, including Colorado fencing club members, college football players in Pennsylvania and Los Angeles, and high school wrestlers in Indiana, and dozens of Pacific Islanders in Hawaii. Many Patients were hospitalized, including most of the athletes. At least two outbreaks have occurred among Native Alaskans since 1996, with many cases linked to steam baths.

In New Jersey, infection clusters were reported in 2003 and earlier this year involving two high schools and members of one family.

In Stafford, Texas, Janet Johnson's 13 year-old son Nicholas had such a severe infection apparently after a minor football injury last October, that he was hospitalized for 5 1/2 weeks and nearly died. The staph infected his lungs, blood and bones, destroying hearing in one ear and making it difficult to walk.

"He was like a stroke victim," she said. But he's doing much better now thanks to extensive physical therapy, repeated surgeries and continuing use of antibiotics.
